The path of the Berliner Barock Solisten
1995
The Berliner Barock Solisten were founded in 1995 by Rainer Kussmaul, Raimar Orlovsky, other members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and leading musicians of the early music scene with the aim of performing the music of the 17th and 18th centuries with modern instruments at the highest artistic level. The conscious decision to play on modern or modernized old instruments in no way stands in the way of an approach to “historical” performance practice. The type and size of the instrumentation varies with regard to the works in the respective concert programs.
2005
The work of the ensemble is documented by numerous CD recordings, whose exceptionality has also been recognized by the professional critics. The Berliner Barock Solisten have received numerous awards for their recordings, including the Grammy Award in 2005.
2010
With Rainer Kussmaul (1946-2017), the ensemble had an internationally experienced soloist, especially in the field of baroque music, as its artistic director from its founding until 2010. From then on, the Berliner Barock Solisten placed the artistic direction in different hands from project to project: Bernhard Forck, Daniel Gaede, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Gottfried von der Goltz, Daniel Hope, Daishin Kashimoto and Daniel Sepec have already appeared at the helm of the ensemble.
2014
In December 2014, the Berliner Barock Solisten performed for the first time under the direction of a conductor: At the end of the CPhE Bach Year, symphonies and concertos were performed under the direction of Reinhard Goebel in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie. The concert was recorded by SONY and released in November 2015 as a “live CD”, which was highly praised by the specialist press.
2017
In the fall of 2017, the six Brandenburg Concertos by JS Bach, conducted by Reinhard Goebel and featuring renowned soloists such as Reinhold Friedrich, Jacques Zoon, Radek Baborak as well as Nils Mönkemeyer, also released by SONY-classics, were added as a studio production.
2018
The trade press and international audiences received this new production of the “Brandenburgische” so effusively that the Barock Solisten appointed Reinhard Goebel as their new artistic director in May 2018 following a brilliant European tour. In October 2018, Reinhard Goebel and the Barock Solisten were awarded the newly created “Opus Classic Prize 2018” for the “Recording of the Year” for the Brandenburg Concertos.
