Julia Gartemann

born in Münster, Westphalia, in 1975, has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2000. She studied with Nobuko Imai at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, as well as with Michael Tree and Karen Tuttle at the renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia/USA.
The violist has received numerous prizes and scholarships, including from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
Julia Gartemann performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in Germany and abroad and has been a guest at major festivals (including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Lucerne Festival).
For several years she has also been active as a teacher, since 2013 with a teaching position for viola at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.
She plays on a viola by C.F.Landolfi from 1767.
